Prof. Victor Bartling, professor of New Testament Language and Interpretation, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., was born December 22, 1896, at Waterford, Wis. He was graduated from Concordia College, Milwaukee, Wis., in 1916; Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1919. Prof. Bartling did his graduate work at Marquette University where in 1942 he received his MA in Classical Greek. August 3, 1919, he was ordained in St. Paul's Church at Laurium, Mich., after which he served at BismarkDriscoll-Windsor, N. Dak., 1919-1924; Fargo, N. Dak., 1924-1926; Concordia College, Milwaukee, Wis., 1926-1950; Assistant: Cross Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, Wis., 1926-1936; Assistant: Bethany Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, Wis, 1937-1950; Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., 1950/ Synod was privileged to have his services over a period of years on various boards and committees including: The Board of Support, N. Dak.·Montana, Dist; Commission on Marriage and Family Life; Committee on Women Suffrage in the Church; Member of the Board for Foreign Missons; and Member of the Advisory Committee for Versions of the Bible. In 1952 he became Associate Editor of the Lutheran Witness and Associate Editor of the Concordia Theological Monthly. Among his literary contributions are a number of books including a (Translation of the stenographic reports of lectures in German by Prof. Theodore Graebner) entitled, Church Membership and Lodge Membership. Others of his works included such books as: Christian Joy; Women in the Passion Story; The Burden of Jesus; and a number of articles which appeared in the Lutheran Witnessand Der Lutheraner.
