Dr. Bruss teaches in the Classics Department at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. He has also held teaching positions at The University of the South (Sewanee, Tennessee), St. Olaf College (Northfield, Minnesota) and Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minnesota), in addition to serving as a Lutheran pastor. His published works include numerous articles topically ranging from Greek and Latin poetry and philosophy to the humanist tradition in the Wittenberg Reformation; translations of Reformation-Era works, a classical Greek textbook; Hidden Presences: Monuments, Gravesites and Corpses in Greek Funerary Epigram; and Brill's companion to Hellenistic epigram, which he co-edited with Peter Bing. He holds the M.A. (1997) and Ph.D. (2000) in classics from the University of Minnesota, the M.Div. (1994) from Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary, and the B.A. (1989) in classics from St. Olaf College.
